L’expression «Petites Guerres» fait référence aux guerres de résistance dont la menace et le pouvoir sont tributaires d’activités d’insurrection courantes de groupes civils organisés. Au début des années 1800, Carl von Clausewitz lui donne le nom de «guerre populaire» où «les éléments de résistance existent partout et nulle part». Petites Guerres 2 explore le rapport visuel et conceptuel entre l’œuvre de l’avant-garde russe, et plus particulièrement celle du suprématisme de Kasimir Malevitch et certains aspects de la présente campagne militaire en Iraq. En proposant ce contrepoint historique particulier aux évènements mondiaux actuels, l’installation vise à présenter une relation entre l’insurrection de l’avant garde artistique et celles de groupes quis’opposent présentement à l’occupation politique/militaire. Ses réalisations comme commissaire à articule comprennent « You Scratch My Back and I’ll Scratch Yours in the Colonial Room », de Garry Neill Kennedy, et « New Work », de Michael Jolliffe. Elle a récemment écrit un texte pour le catalogue « Superstar Shadow: Garry Neill Kennedy », Museum London (London, Ontario), ainsi que « Being Subject: Kelly Lynne Wood, Christopher Flower and Johnny Eisen », pour The New Gallery, à Calgary.
The term “Small Wars” refers to wars of resistance whose threat and power are of a calibre that arises from the on-going insurgent activity of organized civilian groups. Carl von Clausewitz in the early 1800’s called this a “people’s war” where “the elements of resistance will exist everywhere and nowhere.” Small Wars 2 explores the visual and conceptual rapport between work of the Russian avant-garde, specifically Kazimir Malevitch’s Suprematism, and aspects of the current military campaign in Iraq. By proposing this particular historical counterpoint to contemporary world events, the installation aims to present a relationship between the insurgency of the artistic avant-garde and that of current groups opposing political/military occupation.
